I managed to capture this image of a humble Xhosa man, walking with purpose alongside the freeway, some 40km north of Beaufort West in the Karoo, South Africa. He was upright – straight and strong. I thought the thick plastic shroud he was wearing to shield the cold and wind (2 deg.) resembled a chiseled marble toga. With the cold fronts hitting the country we should spend some time thinking about the plight of people who are left to the elements. Many of us cannot begin to understand their hardships. I spent some time talking to him and realised very quickly he had more humility and dignity than most I have ever met.
